Unkept promises: Female students warn of protest march to Islamabad

PESHAWAR, Oct 15: A representative of the female students in Chitral here on Monday warned that they would hold a sit-in in front of the President House in Islamabad if the government failed to provide facilities to them in their home valley on a priority basis.

Speaking at a perss conference at Peshawar Press Club, Bibi Jan, the president of the People’s Students Federation (PSF) Chitral’s women wing, demanded that the government and PPP leadership should to pay attention towards problems being faced by the female students in Chitral.

She said the government was least bothered to pay attention towards the problems being faced by the girl students in the far-flung district. She stressed the need that the government should allocated sufficient funds for the uplift of the female students in the educational institutions.

Ms Bibi Jan said PPP Women Wing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Asma Alamgir had visited Chitral in 2011 and promised to provide one bus to Government Girls Degree College Chitral, but the promise is yet to be materialized. She said that more than 1,400 female students were studying in the girls’ degree college, and most of them were facing difficulties while coming from far-flung areas.

The party’s provincial president had also announced 10 million rupees fund for the construction of women vocational training centre district, she maintained. She lamented that she had visited the house of PPP women wing provincial president to remind her of the commitment she made with the students of Chitral, but to no avail.

The other political parties in the government had also offered her to extend funds for the development of the girls’ degree college, but she refused, as she was a true political activist of PSF. She demanded of the party central leadership to take notice of the miseries of the female students and immediately release funds for provision of transportation facilities and construction of women vocational center in the Chitral.
