THQ hospital Drosh without any female doctor for months

DROSH: Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Drosh is running without any female doctor for the last several months.

The only government health facility in Drosh, the THQ hospital serves a population of more than 100,000 living in the town and nearby areas.

A few months ago there were three lady medical officers in this hospital but all were transferred out of the area due to unknown reasons. But the health department failed to fill the vacant posts even after so many months.

It is learned that due to public pressure two lady doctors were posted to the THQ hospital Drosh but they succeeded in getting their posting cancelled within 48 hours by using their sources in power corridor. On a temporary basis another lady doctor was sent to Drosh but after performing duties for a couple of months she also got herself posted out from the hospital.

A huge number of women patient daily visits the health facility but due to unavailability of women medical officer they are facing problems. Even for minor cases, women patients have to visit the DHQ hospital in Chitral.

Political and religious leader of the area, Qari Jamal Abdul Nasir, told ChitralToday that time and again the area people and their representatives had appealed to the authorities to look into the matter and resolve the public issue but all in vain.

He said a lady doctor was posted to the hospital who came, signed the joining report and left for Peshawar within two days and got herself transferred to Chitral town again.

“It is a shameful situation for the concerned authorities. We are planning to stage a peaceful protest again this pathetic situation and will try to force provincial health minister and the secretary health to resolve the issue,” he added.

Not only in Drosh, shortage of doctors and other staff as well as basic facilities has worsened in other areas of Chitral, including the THQ hospital Booni and the DHQ hospital Chitral.

A few days ago, MNA Molana Abdul Akbar said 72 of the total 97 sanctioned posts of medical officers (male) and 11 of the 12 sanctioned posts of female medical officers were vacant across Chitral.
