Sidelining civilian players will ruin game of polo: PPP

CHITRAL: PPP Chitral information secretary Qazi Faisal has said making the annual Shandur festival controversial will leave a very negative impact on the game of polo in Chitral.

In a statement, Mr Faisal, who is also a polo player, said the deputy commissioner’s bid to interfere in the selection of the players was highly condembable.

Polo is the traditional game of Chitral and it is the people of Chitral who have kept this game alive so far. He said if such interference was allowed and supremacy of civilians in the game was not ensured, polo will die its own death in Chitral.

He said if civilians are not included in the annual festival, people of Chitral should boycott the event.

Mr Faisal said the DC should review his unilateral decision by taking on board all the civilian players.

He also said that the interference by the DC in the selection of the players for the mega event was a result of the weakness of the polo association.

He said the association’s decision to boycott the Shandural festival was aimed at ensuring civilian supremacy in the event and should be backed by the people and the civil society.
