Shahzada Khush Ahmad ul Mulk of Ayun passes away
CHITRAL: Shahzada Khush Ahmad ul Mulk has passed away today, his family sources told ChitralToday.
He was the last surviving son of H.H Mehtar Sir Shuja ul Mulk, Mehtar of Chitral and the eldest member of the Chitrali royal family. Shahzada Khush Ahmad was born in August 1920 in Chitral. He received his education from the Doon School in Dehra Dun, India.
Shahzada Khush Ahmad had served in various positions in the Pakistan army and retired as a Major in 1960s. He was author of Gilai Gilayio Juwab, the Chitrali version of Allama Iqbal’s famous poem Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa.
Shahzada also served as the commissioner for Afghan refugees in 1980s. During this time, he toured Northern Afghanistan on horseback. He was an environmental activist and promoted horticulture throughout his life.
He is survived by his two sons, Shahzada Masood ul Mulk, CEO SRSP, and Shahzada Maqsood ul Mulk. He was laid to rest in his family cemetery at Ayun Fort, Balawusht, Ayun Chitral.–Shahzada Idrees Hayat
The Prince Khush Ahmad ul Mulk was so representative of that cohort of native rulers who by the example of their lives and labours maintained the great and genuine dignity of the traditional cultural identities of the greater Indian sub-continent. Such a great and endearing example, indeed, must His late Highness have been to his subjects. Hopefully, the strong cohesive influence which such individuals as the late ruler of Chitral state embodied for their subjects will live on so that the dignity vested in them will long endure. May Almighty God grant him eternal peace.
Death of Khush Ahmad ul mulk is the end of an era.He was the last surviving son of Mehtar Shuja ul mulk.He was known as a very pleasant personality by all and sundry in Chitral.May ALLAH PAAK bless his soul with the eternal peace in Jannah-Aameen.
Chitral lost a big asset, last surviving son of mehtar Shujaul Mulk is also no longer with us. this is the end of an era as we lost the last connection and symbol of the mehtar. may his able sons follow the footsteps of their great father and continue working for the cultural richness of Chitral.

I am sorry to hear the death and loss of our beloved Shahzada of Ayon Major Khosh Ahmed Ul Mulk. Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of Ayono shahzada. He was a great man. He always thought and talked about chitral,s development. He loved Chitral and its people. It’s big loss for all of us. He was a very thoughtful and wonderful person.Nobody will forget him and his love with culture, language and people of chitral. He had a big contribution.My sincere and heartful condolences to Prince Massod Ul Mulk, Prince Maqsood ul Mulk and the entire family.
