Pressure tactics start before rehiring of consultant for CDLD prgramme
CHITRAL: A religious party councilor on Monday got a resolution passed from the District Council against the possible hiring of an NGO as the social mobilizing consultant for the Community Driven Local Development (CDLD) programme in Chitral.
The KP government’s CDLD programme is funded by the European Union (EU) and is being executed in Malakand Division, including the district of Chitral.
The resolution moved by Maulana Inamul Haq, a member of the council from Ashiret, was passed by the house with a simple majority. The resolution demanded the government should not hire any organization which did not garner the support of 100 per cent population of Chitral.
The resolution stated that the agreement signed with the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) for the social mobilization consultancy in Chitral expired in February. In reply to invitation for applications to hire a new consultant, a number of organizations have shown their interest.
The mover of the resolution said there were reports that an application had also been submitted by an NGO that was considered “controversial” by most of the people of Chitral. It said people in some parts of Chitral had refused to get any benefit from the “controversial” NGO for the last about four decades.
If such an organization is hired as a consultant for the CDLD programme, people would not accept it and go to court. As a result, the development works will suffer, he contended. –S. Nazir Hussain
