BOONI: Senator Rubina Khalid of the PPP has assured the people of upper Chitral that she would take up the proposed closure of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) campus in Booni.
Talking to ChitralToday, Nazimeen Forum’s president and Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam leader Muhammad Pervez said the campus was established in Booni by the previous PPP government to facilitate thousands of students belonging to upper Chitral. He said hundreds of students were enrolled at the campus.
However, the PTI-led provincial government decided to wind up the campus instead of expanding it for the benefit of the students. He said the people of the area held protests on a number of occasions but the provincial government has not taken its anti-students decision back.
He said as the local political leaders failed to highlight the issue, some workers of the PPP contacted Senator Rubina Khalid and informed her about the issue. The senator promised that she would take up the matter in the upper house of parliament and would also talk to authorities concerned.
He said the students of the campus were happy after learning about the PPP’s initiative and expressed the hope that the government would not close the campus in order to enable the students to acquire higher education at their doorsteps.
