ISLAMABAD: Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Chitral Molana Hidayatur Rehman on Sunday warned Commissioner Malanak Division against threatening the protesting teachers of the Langlands School and College Chitral.
The JUI lawmaker said he was going to move a calling attention notice in the provincial assembly against the commissioner as he is misusing his authority to please some quarters in Chitral, including the British principal.
“The commissioner is a government employee and must not cross limits in a bid to prove his friendship with those whom he has been supporting for quite long.”
He said that protest was the constitutional right of teachers and no government official can intimidate or stop them.
He said that he was unaware that the teachers had been facing these issues for so long, adding now they have come forward with the demand that the foreigner principal should be removed, and his party stands by the teachers.
“I stand by the teachers – whether it’s a simple protest or a hunger strike for acceptance of their demand. If I’m not there, I’ve asked my workers to stand by the teachers,” he maintained.
He said state functionaries should avoid using force against the teachers or things would slip out of their hands, adding any attempt by the district admin under pressure from the commissioner to harass the teachers would have serious repercussions.
