Drama is a major focus of interest of the general public. The young generation turns to drama as a form of escapism as is obvious from their inclination towards romantic plays (some containing very immoral scene).
In this way, not only they seek escapism from drama but also use it as a mode of realization of their unripe wishes and dreams.
These dramas contain glamour and life is portrayed as more fascinating than it really is. Moreover, TV lends those dreams and desires that can hardly be fulfilled in real life. This is intensified by the portrayal of glamorous life. Our young generation hankers after similar sort of glamorous life but when it sees that its dreams and wishes are going unfulfilled they become victims of frustration and start following wrong steps. Not every girl will get millionaire businessman husband or CEO of a company.
Not every office working girl gets married to her boss, what is it showing?
I also found vulgarity is on its peak these days. You can’t sit with your family and see even commercial ads. Many a times I wonder this is a TV channel of Pakistan? I have seen very very bad and negative effects of this on young girls and boys.
No doubt, dramas of the 90s were wonderful in which they had every type of social and cultural values showed but in limits.
People of all ages used to sit at the front of Television when dramas were going to air on TV. In 1990 the newspaper “International Times” has published an article in which they praised for Pakistani dramas and said: “Pakistan’s dramas are just brilliant and also have cultural & moral values.” Such was the popularity of Pakistani dramas. Some dramas that were really classic were Dhoop kinara, Najjat, Sitara & Tanhaian. These dramas had a very good stories and very heart touching dialogues filled with good entertainment as well as lessons.
Today’s large number of media programs cultivating alien culture and norms and rapidly bringing a change in the attitude of the young generation which will be very harmful even for them!
