CHITRAL, April 6: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI)’s Chitral chapter held a protest demonstration here today and asked the government to stop spreading obscenity in the country through promotion of cables, internet and other social media.
The protest was held at PIA Chowk after Friday prayers, where a large number of party activists and office-bearers took part. Addressing the particpamnts, JUI’s district chief Maulana Abdur Rehman condemned the government for dropping the latest petrol bomb on the people, that has put the prices of daily-use items skyrocketing.
He said the government had failed to provide any relief to the poor and was increasing prices, further breaking the back of the masses who were compelled to commit suicide due to rising poverty and unemployment.
Maulana Rehman also slammed the government for succumbing to the dictates of the Americans and deciding to reopen the supply routes to NATO and ISAF forces in Afghanistan against the aspirations of the people. He warned the government not to reopen the supply routes to the foreign forces stationed in the neighbouring country.
The JUI leader also criticized the government for spreading obscenity in the country through cable network, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the electronic media. He also said frequent power breakdowns in Chitral had made the lives of the locals miserable. He said the government had also failed to fulfil its promises regarding provision of basic facilities to the people in the valley and due to its non-seriousness work on the Chitral bypass was also progressing at a snail’s space. He said poor working of telephones, including wireless loop, and DSL service also showed the inefficiency of the rulers besides cerating hardship for the residents.
