CHITRAL, Oct 5: Radio has always been the only source of information and entertainment for the people in far-off areas like Chitral. Even today when television has penetrated the villages, there are people, especially the elderly, who continue listening to the radio regularly. The attachment of the people of upper Chitral with radio even today can be judged from the fact that they are demanding the authorities concerned to ensure uninterrupted reception of radio transmission. Talking to this correspondent here on Friday, Mohammad Shafi, the president of a social organization called Mahraka Golden Society, said very poor signals of Radio Pakistan Islamabad were received in the area depriving them of the morning transmissions. He said most of the morning programmes were broadcasted on the national hook-up from Islamabad station and about 100 per cent households tuned to the morning transmissions. Mr. Shafi said the evening transmissions were, however, of good quality in reception and the problem of poor signals pops up at dawn and sunset. He said he repeatedly approached the high-ups of Radio Pakistan but no heed was paid to their complaints.–Zahiruddin Print Friendly and PDF]]>
