Give drivers training – and respect too
Education brings positive changes in the behaviour of individuals. This sentence has been used for so many times and is being used widely by educationists.
Unfortunately, this particular sentence has no significance to our society. We call a person educated and uneducated by virtue of his degrees and qualifications. If a person is having a degree and has no sense of good and bad and lacks sense of responsibility he is not educated rather he/she is unlettered, a mass of mere flesh.
Our education system needs to be regulated as per the needs of the day. In this world of modern technology everyone should have free access to education and people should be educated according to the changing conditions of the day.
In Pakistan and specifically in Chitral, education is the name of a degree. No one gives importance to educate a driver who drives publicly. A driver who drives on a public transport has many responsibilities as human lives are moved by him. Unfortunately, drivers in our society are considered as mean and are given no importance. Therefore, you see those people driving a taxi on a public transport who are illiterate and lack tolerance and sense of responsibility.
In foreign countries taxi drivers are respected individuals where they are respected. An educated person never feels embarrassed driving a taxi on public transport. So in this regard our government and police should establish an institution where taxi drivers will be trained and educated. Licence should not be issued without prior attending the training class or the existing licence should be cancelled if he fails to obey the given guidelines.
Minimum education should be matriculation and a person should be judged by his sense of responsibility before issuing licence to him.
Heavy penalty in case of breach of traffic rules should be given and his driving license should be cancelled likewise.
Keeping in view the above suggestion in mind the government may control day to day traffic accidents in our country.
