Experts stress scientific thinking, literacy

CHITRAL, Nov 10: A Science and Technology Competition (STC) concluded at the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Chitral, on Sunday, in which 36 public and private schools and colleges showcased 86 projects.

At the opening and closing ceremonies the students presented national songs, tableau, dramas, short comedy, stories of school achievements and musical episode. Speaking on the occasion, AKHSS Chitral Principal Zulfiqar Ali heralded the idea of providing a forum to the students’ across Chitral to present their creative and innovative works once a year, and working for the delivery of quality education in Chitral. While responding the issue of cheating culture, he wished the guests to observe annual examination under AKU-EB in May at his school.

GM AKESP, Chitral Mr. Mir Zaman Shah thanked all schools and congratulated the host school for organizing the event. He said that STC provided an opportunity of learning and interaction to learners’ and they were enthusiastically participating and presenting their works’ when they used to visit them. While speaking on the purpose of STC to promote scientific literacy he said that ‘it improves students’ confidence, creativity and the way to express’.

He concluded paying his gratitude to the principal of Langlands School and College to encourage students’ for competitions. Ms.Carey Schoffield, Principal Langlands School and College, thanked the principal and faculty members for organizing the event, and termed it absolutely extraordinary. “I find it most extraordinary forum to share, showing initiatives and enthusiasm. I am truly grateful the people of the area, and Chitral is also extraordinary,” she added. Speaking on the delivery of education service, she said that this institution takes interest in quality education which makes enormous inspiration among young people and parents.

Chief guest Prof. Masood Ahmad, Principal Degree College Chitral, quoted a verse: ‘Sheikh maktab hay aik immarat ghar-jis ki sanad hai rooh a insani’. That ‘education is the birth right of every child. Allah’s first message revealed on prophet Mohammed (PBUH) started with ‘Iqra’ was the message of education. The prophet do enjoined on seeking education even to go China’. “The epidemic of cheating is sucking the blood of the Pakistan. The degree institutions award to students’ they don’t deserve it and most of the people in Pakistan from the echelon of parliament, university and college having fake degrees. Its responsibility does come on the shoulders of the teachers too. Pakistan has an abundance of resources but in literacy level as compared to the poor countries we are lagging far is today’s big dilemma’ he also added.

President of the event Mr. Mohammad Afzal said that we should come together to discuss, develop and explore the skills of the students, the other institutions do benefit out of it. ‘We should pay respect to the values of Islam in our life. Students must earn the prayers of parents and teachers for success. Every student represents his school, area, country once goes to another country. For the love and peace of Chitral we all should come together every time’ he also added while addressing the students on the occasion.

The first, second and third position holders and participants in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer, model framing, Calligraphy, Painting, and drawing were awarded with certificates and trophies .
