Environment protection stressed

CHITRAL, June 6: CHEPS in collaboration with shobinak organized environmental seminar here on 5th June at the Centennial Model School in connection with the world environment day. People from different walks of life participated in the programe while children from Danish school system presented tableau on environment protection. The programe was presided over by a famous social and political figure and former MPA Saeed Ahmad Khan while Dr Nooul Islam, the MS of the DHQ Hospital, was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr Zahoorul Haq, lecturer in English, SBBU,presented the welcome address and threw light on the activities of CHEPS. The speakers speakers on the occasion were Maulana Khaliquz Zaman, Dr Noorul Islam and the former MPA. They spoke at length on the importance of environment and its timely preservation. Maulana Kkhaliquz zaman highlighted the importance of cleanliness in the light of quran and Sunna. He further stated that the concept of present day national park is as old as fourteen hundred years ago when the holy prophet reserved a big chunk of land for the same purpose and launched a plantation compaign along with the companions. Dr Islam strongly condemned the cutting of trees on a large scale. Emphasizing the importance of forests for humen life he said that a single large tree can produce oxygen for the consumption of as many as seventy people. He added that due to increasing man made pollution humen being are at a greater risk of contracting various diseases of lungs, stomach and other humen organs.
