Our municipal administration should be given a wake-up call as a private appeal to its offices has had no effect. Perhaps a little publicity will do no harm.
For the last few months poultry wastes are being thrown into the side of the road near Chew Bridge. It gives bad odour to pedestrians and the area has become almost impassable for passersby. Besides, the river is being contaminated.
The TMO had some time back pasted a warning note on a blue board at the site but now the board itself has disappeared. In the winter season the foul smell is not felt due to the low temperature but when the sun blazes it adds to the decomposition of the poultry wastes. So the smell from the wastes is spread out directly to the noses of the pedestrians by river breeze.
It is scandalous that we should be inconvenienced in this way for weeks without any notice form the authorities concerned. I hope the citizens will bring pressure on those responsible so that the poultry farm owners could be punished and forced to stop throwing poultry wastes into the roadside.
