CHITRAL: Former provincial minister and PPP candidate for NA-1 Salim Khan on Saturday alleged that district nazim Maghfirat Shah, Chitral tehsil nazim Muhammad Ilyas and Mastuj tehsil nazim Maulana Muhammad Yousuf blatantly violated the election code of conduct and lavishly used local government resources to campaign for the MMA candidates in the recently held general elections.
He was speaking along with other PPP leaders at a gathering of PPP leaders here. Mr Khan, who lost to MMA candidate Maulana Abdul Akbar by a margin of about 16,000 votes, added that his party strongly condemned the use of local government resources, including official vehicles, by the religious parties for the electioneering of the MMA candidates.
He also said despite losing the election, his party would remain committed to working for the betterment of the people of Chitral. He said the PPP would also soon start making preparations to actively take part in the next local government election.
Mr Khan warned all those party workers and activists who either did not take active part in the election campaign of the PPP or clandestinely supported other parties and candidates.
Those who also spoke on the occasion included PPP Chitral senior vice president Sharif Hussain, Qari Nizamuddin, Qazi Faisal Ahmed and Alam Zeb Advocate. –Nazir Hussain Shah
