CHITRAL, July 22: Former union council nazim Abdul Wali Khan has said three important development projects in Chitral have fallen victim to corruption and mismanagement. bypass copyIn a press statement here, he called upon the KP government and the PTI chief Imran Khan to take notice of the matter. He said these three projects had failed due to the use of substandard material and poor planning. He said that the previous Awami National Party (ANP)-led provincial government had approved the Golen water supply scheme for the 50% population of the Chitral town and almost Rs.500 million were spent on the project. However, he added, due to corruption and use of substandard material the project failed just after its inauguration by MPA Saleem Khan a few weeks ago. It is noteworthy that the provincial government and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials and Anti-Corruption Department Chitral have remained silent on the issue which is a question mark on their performances. Mr khan said that a bridge was under construction in Molain Gol Chitral for the last one year but due to the use of substandard material and corruption and poor planning, this project also failed in its initial stages. The Abdul Wali Khan Bypass in the Chitral town is another example of corruption in which substandard material was used and the funds embezzled. He further alleged that the alleged collusion of the C&W department and the contractors was a slap on the face of the government which has been claiming to eliminate corruption in society. Although the Anti-Corruption Department has lodged an FIR against some officials as well as the contractors of the C&W, there is a need to pursue the case and take stern action against the corrupt mafia. He said if the PTI government was unable to launch any development project in Chitral, at least it should take action against the corrupt mafia and investigate the embezzlement of public money in different development projects launched by the previous government. He added that the PTI should fulfil its promise of justice and take action against corrupt mafia, especially the officials concerned who have been using delaying tactics to complete the development schemes in Chitral. ]]>

It is due to Pti’s governments stance against corruption that people have started raising these issues. Before this, rampant corruption was an accepted norm of the society and used to be a non issue. Provincial government has not reached perfection in 1 year but they have taken examplary measures against corruption, unprecedented in Pakistans history.
