PESAHWAR: One month after the issuance of a notification to create the new district of Upper Chitral, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday formally bifurcated Chitral into two districts.
A notification issued by the Board of Revenue and Estate Department said Chitral has been divided into Lower Chitral and Upper Chitral districts.
The Nov 21 notification issued by the Board of the Revenue had stated that in exercise of powers conferred under sections 5 and 6 of Land Revenue Act 1967, the provincial government was pleased to notify Upper Chitral as a district with Booni as its district headquarters with immediate effect.
It said that the district would comprise Mastuj and Torkhow/Mulkhow subdivisions. However, provincial government did not tinker with the boundaries of the upper and lower parts of the district as no area of Chitral tehsil was included in the district.
