CHITRAL: People of Reshun Gol on Friday expressed their anger over Chief Minister Mahmood Khan’s decision to inaugurate reconstruction of the Reshun powerhouse without bothering to visit their area during his daylong stay in Chitral.

The Reshun powerhouse was damaged in the 2015 floods and since then remained non-functional due to apathy of the government.

The chief minister opened a plaque at Reshun polo ground to inaugurate the reconstruction of the 4.2 megawatt hydel powerhouse in Reshun Gol which will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs806 million by June 2020 benefiting approximately 16,000 local residents.

Angry over the chief minister’s decision not to visit Reshun Gol to open the work, the locals arranged a function and themselves inaugurated the project.

Talking to the media, the people of Reshun Gol said they were eagerly waiting for the visit of the chief minister to their villages to inaugurate the work. But the chief minister was misguided due to which he opened a plaque at the polo ground.
The residents said since 2015 floods had played havoc in their area destroying agricultural land, crops and other properties. Still the area is at the risk of more floods.
“We were expecting that the chief minister would visit us and would see out condition and chalk out any plan to not only compensate us for our losses but would also devise a strategy to protect us from further destruction,” they added.
