PESHAWAR: The reconstruction and repair of Brep bridge has been approved by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) at a cost of Rs7.283 million.
The bridge connects the remote Yarkhun valley with other parts of upper Chitral.
The jeepable bridge near Khotanlasht was first built in 1980. Due to non-repair it collapsed in 2006, cutting off the whole valley for about six years.
Since its reconstruction in the year 2011, the government has not repaired it again.
Residents of Yarkhun told ChitralToday that the reconstruction of the Brep bridge was overdue and the government should start the work on a priority basis.
They also stressed the need to strictly monitor the repair work in order to ensure quality.
Apart from this, there are a number of other bridges on the same river and streams which are in poor shape and require rehabilitation in the area.
