DIZG (YARKHUN): The KP government’s billion tree tsubami afforestation drive is starting in the vast barren desert of Khotanlasht here on Sunday.
Officials of the village organization of Dizg said 500,000 saplings of kicker would be planted in Khotanlasht, a public grazing groung located between the Dizg and Istach villages. So far, about 10,000 saplings have been delivered to the village organization by the WWF.
The stream of Khotan (Khotan Gol) divides the desert into two parts and the Dizg village organization will plant the saplings on its own side.
A resident of the village told ChitralToday that arrangements would be made to bring water for the plants which would be looked after by Nigahbans to be appointed by the government.
He said those planting the saplings would be paid Rs10 per plant. It may be noted that in the past different NGOs promised to bring water for the barren land as well as the water-starved Dizg, Khruzg and Istach villages but either abandoned their plans midway or failed to even initiate any work.
Some residents of the area also said without the supply if water, the trees planted under the Tasmania drive would Bea failure and wastage of public funds.
