Public awareness stressed as mother and child health week launched

CHITRAL: District Health Officer Dr Iftikharuddin said public awareness  is crucial to ensure good health of mothers and children.

He was speaking at a function held in connection with the ongoing mother and child health week. The week will continue till Feb 25.

Over 1,500 expecting mothers will be administered injections and about 45,000 children would get anti-worm medicines during this period.

Health department officials will visit door-to-door to create awareness of different diseases. They will also distribute free of cost medicines among the residents.

District Khateeb Molana Fazle Mola, who was chief guest, also stressed the importance of awareness. He said due to malnutrition most of children died even before their first birthday.

He said creating awareness about healthcare of mothers and children is the need of the hour.
