Additional Rs500 million approved for construction of tehsil level playgrounds

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved additional funds of Rs500 million for starting work on the establishment of sports grounds at the tehsil level in the province. Presiding over a meeting here on Thursday, the chief minister also directed for floating of tenders of the pre-planned 46 playgrounds and starting construction work on it in the earliest. He said the promotion of sports and construction of modern stadiums was among top priorities of PTI-led coalition government. He said PTI chairman Imran Khan was also taking keen interest in the promotion of sports and healthy activities among the youth. The authorities told the meeting that Rs1007.00 million had been allocated for the first phase of the construction of 40 sports grounds of the total 75 tehsil headquarters of the province during the current fiscal year. However, Rs500 million have been released to the sports directorate so far. To ensure the timely execution of the schemes, the chief minister directed for further release of Rs500 million for the purpose. The authorities said tenders of 46 tehsil level sports grounds were being advertised within a couple of days following release of the amount while all these schemes would be completed in six months. They said the construction works would be started on 12 sports grounds at state land, 15 grounds on land of schools and colleges while 19 on purchased lands due to unavailability of state and schools plots. In the first phase, the tehsil level sports grounds comprising 40 kanals each would have a pavilion, cricket, volleyball and hockey grounds while basket ball, volleyball, squash, badminton and table tennis courts would be constructed in the next phase wherein Rs3700 million have been allocated for the purpose.
