CHITRAL: Former provincial minister and PPP leader Salim Khan on Thursday asked the district administration of Upper Chitral to withdraw the order to arrest social and political leader Muhammad Pervez Lal under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order (Ordinance).
In a statement sent to ChitralToday, he said Pervez Lal is a political and social worker and has always raised voice for the rights of the people of Upper Chitral. By using the draconian MPO against the political activist, the DC cannot suppress the public voice, he added.
He said Pervez Lal had raised voice for the rights of the people during the visit of the chief minister to the flood-affected village of Reshun.
The district government could not come to the help of the flood-displaced people but lost no time to issue the dictatorial law to arrest Pervez Lal under 3 MPO and send him to DI Khan jail, located at the other corner of the province.
This is a despotic step taken by the deputy commissioner and should be withdrawn forthwith. He warned that if the arrest order issued against Pervez Lal was not withdrawn the PPP would launch a protest campaign across Chitral.
