AYUN: A court on Tuesday stayed demolition of an under-construction multi-storey hotel building in Krakal village of Bumurate in Kalash valley.
The hotel was being raised near Bashaleni (the home of Kalash women where they stay during menstruation). The district administration started razing the structure on Monday on the request of the KP archaeology department.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Naveed Ahmed on Monday said the Kalash community had been expressing strong reservations since the construction on the hotel started.
He said he had ordered the building’s demolition after fulfilling all the formalities and giving ample time to the owner.
But locals told ChitralToday that on Tuesday the officials engaged in pulling down the building received the court order restraining them from further action, and the demolition was stopped.
Ahmed Zaman Khan from Lahore has married a woman in Krakal village of Bumburate and took the land from Badshah Khan of the area and started the construction of the hotel.
Since the start of the work, both the archaeology department and the district administration have been warning the owner against building the hotel as there was a ban on such construction in Kalash valleys. But the owner did not follow the instructions and almost completed the hotel.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
