PESHAWAR: A middle aged man belonging to Chitral threw a corrosive substance on his family members, seriously wounding his spouse, three daughters and a son in Hayatabad area of Peshawar on August 17.
Police said the incident which has not been reported in the media took place at Phase-VII area of Hayatabad, which falls in the precincts of Tatara police station. Police identified the suspect as Imtiazuddin from Lower Chitral.
Tatara police have registered an FIR against the suspect on the complaint of his 12-year-old son under section 336-B of Pakistan Penal Code. The minor has also sustained burn injuries from the corrosive substance.
The complainant told police that on the morning of August 17, his father entered the house carrying some liquid in a shopper.
“Around 10am my father upon entering home threw the chemical at my mother and other family members sitting together,” he said, adding the wife of the suspect, three young daughters and the minor son sustained burn injuries on their face, upper and lower parts of their bodies.
The injured were afterwards shifted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Center Hayatabad where they are being treated.
The burn centre administration refused to comment on the matter, saying it was a medico-legal case and being investigated by police.
However, a senior doctor who wished anonymity confirmed to ChitralToday that the victims were being treated at the centre.
“Almost all the patients sustained burn on face, hands, neck and other parts of their bodies,” he said, adding the condition of one of the girls was serious and the others were stable.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantonment Hassan Jahangir Wattoo confirmed the corrosive substance throwing incident. He said police were investigating the incident following registration of the FIR.
“The incident happened due to domestic problems,” the SP told ChitarlToday, adding police were further investigating the case. The SP also said the suspect was jobless for the last six to seven months.
SP Jahangir said initially the family was not ready to lodge an FIR but the police reached the hospital after getting information and got the case registered.
He said the suspect had obtained bail before arrest (BBA) from a local court. He said police will file an application in the court for cancellation his bail.
