CHITRAL: People living in Balach, Singoor, Shah Mirandeh and Senjal villages cleared the four kilometres long Singoor irrigation canal of blockages by manually scooping out mud, weeds and rubbish etc.
Millions of rupees had been released for the construction of the irrigation canal during the tenure of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal government in Khyber Pakhtunkha but the project executed by the irrigation department failed to benefit the farmers.
Manzoor Hussan, an old resident of Singoor, told ChitralToday correspondent that there was no one to ask the relevant authorities about the failure of the project and the utilization of the funds.
Ataullah, another resident, said if the government departments concerned could help them in cementing the sides of the canal the problem would be resolved.
The residents demanded that the government should order an investigation into the failed project of Singoor irrigation canal and allocate funds for its reconstruction.–GH Farooqui
