Irrigation canals in Kalash valleys to be rehabilitated

CHITRAL: Minority MPA Wazirzada said Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has allocated Rs100 million for development of Kalash valleys and some of the funds would be spent on repair of old irrigation canals and construction of new ones.

During a meeting of PTI workers in Rumbur he was told that a large swath of barren land in Rumbur could be brought under cultivation by constructing irrigation canals.

Mr Wazirzada said a Chitral Development Authority was also being set up that would also work for development of road infrastructure in the Kalash valleys and provision of other facilities to attract more tourists.

He said the government would also formulate policies to discourage cutting of trees while outsiders would not be allowed to purchase land or construct hotels in the Kalash valleys.—Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
