Shandur pass to remain closed till further order

MASTUJ: Shandur Pass will remain closed till further order even though it has been cleared of snow by the C&W department, says Upper Chitral district admin.

A statement said, on the direction of the deputy commissioner of Upper Chitral, additional deputy commissioner Irfanuddin visited Shandur.

It said due to tireless efforts of the C&W department, the Shandur Pass has been cleared of snow.

But due to some unavoidable circumstances, the pass will remain closed for all kinds of traffic till further order, it added.

Usually, Shandur road connecting Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan remains closed in the winter due to heavy snowfall but opens by the end of April.

However, the administration did not clarify the reasons for keeping the road closed even in June this year.

This road is frequented by labourers of Laspur even in the winter who go to seek work in the Gilgit-Baltistan side.

A few days ago, five labourers from Yarkhun were not allowed to move towards Shandur Pass from Gahkuch in GB.
