Garam Chashma, Rumbur roads reopened

CHITRAL: People across Chitral are still reeling under the impact of the recent heavy snowfall. Though Garam Chashma and Rumbur roads were also opened after removal of the snow on Sunday, the roads are still dangerous for traffic.

The C&W department used machinery to remove the snow from the roads and declared them open for traffic but very few vehicles could be seen plying to and from the two sub-valley.

Passengers on Chitral-Peshawar road told ChitrralToday that without using tyre chains it was also not possible to travel on the approach roads of Lowari road on both Chitral and Dir sides.

They said due to the snowy and slippery surface of the road it took seven to eight hours to reach Upper Dir from Chitral.

Chitral remained cut off from rest of the country for about three days after the heavy snowfall and avalanches on Lowari on Jan 13.

The heavy snowfall also blocked roads to Kalash valleys, Shishikoh, Garam Chashma, Mastuj, Laspur, Yarkhun and Torkhow.
