One year on, Upper Chitral is a district on paper only

BOONI: More than a year after Upper Chitral was notified as a new district, the government has failed to make its departments functional.

PPP leader Engineer Fazle Rabi Jan on Tuesday asked the PTI government to ensure allocation of funds for Upper Chitral and make all line departments functional in the new district without any further delay.

Talking to local media along with workers of the party in Booni, he warned that if the government failed to ensure the establishment of all line departments and release of funds for the new district, his party would mobilize the local people and launch a fully-fledged protest movement.

He said when the PTI government notified the new district of Upper Chitral in Nov 2018, his party had welcomed the move. But after over a year, the government has neither released funds nor made its line departments functional in the district.

He also criticized elected lawmakers of Chitral and said MNA Molana Abdul Akber and MPA Molana Hidayatur Rehman were in deep slumber after being elected by the people and had done nothing to resolve issues being faced by the local people.

He said due to the extremely poor condition of Torkhow and Mastuj roads, fatal accidents have become common but the government remained unmoved to repair the roads.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Upper Chitral general secretary Hameed Jalal said so far Upper Chitral was a new district only on paper. He said if the new district was not made functional, the PPP along with other political parties would launch a protest drive.–Karim Ullah
