Bid to smuggle timber out of Chitral foiled, two held

CHITRAL: A bid to smuggle timber out of Chitral was foiled by officials of the forest department late on Monday night.

An official said the timber mafia tried to smuggle the timber late at night but the truck carrying deodar logs was stopped at Ashiret.

He said two persons, including the truck driver, had been taken into custody for an investigation and trace the smugglers.

Timber mafia backed by officials of the government departments concerned have for long been active in cutting green trees in Chitral and smuggle them out of the valley.
