Ex-food dept. inspector sent to jail for Rs64.4m corruption

PESHAWAR: Special judge anti-corruption on Friday convicted a food grain inspector, Sher Ali Khan, of misappropriation of huge quantity of wheat in Chitral and sentenced him to three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs1.5 million.
Judge Ikhtiar Khan pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against Sher Ali Khan with evidence.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti Corruption Establishment had registered an FIR against the accused on April 2, 2018, after which he was arrested.
His bail petition was also dismissed by the special court as well as Peshawar High Court.
Senior public prosecutor Khalid Khan appeared for ACE and contended that the accused was posted to Chitral from 2011 to 2016 and he was also in-charge of three storages of the department in Brooghil, Yarkhun and Torkhow.
He contended that when the accused was transferred it was found that 13,786 bags of wheat worth Rs46.4 million were missing from the stores. He argued that the accused could not provide any justification for the missing bags.–Dawn
