Sher Wali Khan, spouse announce to leave APML

YARKHUN: A day after Pervez Musharraf resigned as the chairman of his All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), disintegration in the party in Chitral started with an announcement by senior leader Sher Wali Khan Aseer and his spouse to quit from the basic membership of the APML.

Talking to ChitralToday, Mr Aseer said he and his supporters were not going to join any political party and would use their votes for candidates based on their performance and integrity in the July 25 election.

Mr Aseer and his spouse had on March 8, 2018, resigned as the vice president and women wing president, respectively, of the APML Chitral. The couple had said they would not take part in any political activity of the party till Gen Musharraf returned to the country.

Mr Aseer is a retired principal and former executive district officer (education) Chitral and is widely respected for his services in the remote Yarkhun valley. He has also done lots of work in the literary field.

APML intact

Samsaam Ali Khan Advocate, another APML leader from Yarkhun valley, told ChitralToday that Musharraf announced to resign from the chairmanship of the party to fulifil a requirement of the Election Commission of Pakistan in the backdrop of the Peshawar High Court’s verdict to disqualify him for life in 2013 and the latest Supreme Court ruling.
He said the APML remained intact and its candidates were continuing their election campaigns across Chitral.

When contact, APML’s focal person in Chitral, Waqas Ahmad Advocate, said the names of the candidates who had filed their nomination papers for NA-1 and PK-1 would be finalized by the end of this month. He said party’s chairman Dr Muhammad Amjad would be visiting Chitral on June 26 after which a decision about the final candidates would be announced.
