CHITRAL: After much bickering and grouping, the provincial leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Friday threw its weight behind former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and announced that he would be the candidate of the MMA from Chitral for the July 25 election.
Speaking at a press conference after holding a meeting with the district chapter of his party, JI’s provincial head Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said if JI was given one seat of Chitral Maulana Chitrali would be the candidate.
Maulana Chitrali has already filed nomination papers for both PK-1 and NA-1 of Chitral. Hes aid the JI should be given the provincial assembly seat of PK-1.
He said Wajih Uddin would file papers as the covering candidate of Maulana Chitrali. District nazim Maghfirat Shah, who led a group of JI workers and leaders against Maulana Chitrali’s candidature, was conspicuous by his absence at the press conference. –Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
