Lowari Pass cleared for light traffic

But it is now up to the local administration and the National Highway Authority (NHA) to decide about the formal opening of the pass for traffic, the statement added. It said there was an unprecedented rain/snow during the winter but even then the army opened the pass early than the previous years. It may be mentioned that the 10,500 feet high pass connecting Chitral with other parts of the country remains closed for about four months every winter. During this period, the government opens the under-construction Lowari tunnel for two days every week. The tunnel is expected to be ready later this year, providing an all-weather route to Chitral for the first time.  ]]>
