PK-89: Ex-PPP leader contesting election on MQM ticket

CHITRAL, April 3: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has also fielded its candidate for a provincial assembly seat in Chitral. It is for the first time that the Karachi-based party has entered the political race in Chitral. mqmAddressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Haji Abdul Rehman said he had been associated with the Pakistan People’s Party for more than 40 years. However, after the death of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, the PPP failed to follow the principles of its founders. As a result, he added, he resigned from the post of the PPP Chitral vice-president and joined the MQM. He said MQM chief Altaf Hussain was a brave and honest leader and that was why he had joined the MQM. He said more than 100,000 Chitrali are settled in Karachi and they were being supporting by the MQM He said the MQM central leadership would provide hostel and accommodation facilities to the Chitrali students in Karachi. “I have submitted my nomination papers for PK-89 and will contest the election.” He was flanked by  Javed Iqbal and Noor Alam Shah, former councilor Union council Broze. When told that the people of  Ayun had banned all candidates of political and religious parties from any campaign in their area, he said Ayun is his native town and he had more than 40,000 votes in that area.—GH Farooqui]]>
