PPP workers in Chitral join ANP

CHITRAL, July 8: Several workers of PPP on Saturday announced their decision to resign from the party membership and join Awami National Party. In the function held here, red caps embroidered with letters ‘ANP’ were put on their heads by the provincial vice-president of the party Shagufta Malik while many people termed the participation of women in the public meeting a departure from the centuries-old tradition of the area. Speaking on the occasion, they said it was ANP which had initiated a number of programs for the amelioration of the women for the first time. They said the women folk possessed talent of varied nature and can play their role in the social integration and development if given a chance breaking the self-imposed taboo. The provincial leader Shagufta Malik enumerated a number of projects meant for the women folk and said that all these were aimed at women development in all sectors including financial and political emancipation. She said the exclusive assembly of women was substantiating the fact that the women is no more bonded in shackles here and the high rate of education among the women is the most encouraging and promising factor for their future. The president of district chapter of women wing Khadija Sardar also spoke on the occasion and said that self-employment opportunities have been provided to hundreds of women across the district under the banner of the party.
