Imamat Day celebrated at official level in Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT, July 11: For the first time, the Imamat Day of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan was officially celebrated in Gilgit-Baltistan on July 11. [caption id="attachment_3071" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="GILGIT: Imamat Day cake is being cut at the CM House."][/caption] In this regard, the provincial government had already declared public holiday on July 11 to facilitate the community in observing the day in a befitting manner. The main feature of the day’s celebrations was a function held at the chief minister house where people from all walks of life, including Mehdi Shah, the CM, Speaker of the legislative assembly Wazir Baig along with ministers, advisers and members of the assembly took part. Representatives of the Ismaili Council were also invited to the function. On this occasion, the cake of the 55th Imamat Day of the Aga Khan was also cut. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said Prince Karim Aga Khan is the greatest benefactor of the people of the region and God may bless him for his services to humanity. He said the His Highness has done remarkable works in social sectors like education and health care, adding the government and people of the region shared the happiness of the day with their Ismaili brothers and sisters. The chief minister said the Aga Khan should also visit those districts of the region where his followers did not live. Mr Shah said his government was extending all-out support to the AKDN in completing its welfare projects in the area, adding a piece of land had also been allocated for the establsihment of the Aga Khan Hospital in the city. He also said the Ismaili community had always played a crucial role in promoting sectarian harmony and brotherhood in the region and their services for peace was praiseworthy. Addressing the function, the president of Ismaili Regional Council Gilgit-Baltistan, Prof Manzoor Ali, thanked the provincial government for celebrating the event at the official level. Meanwhile, like other parts of the country, the Imamat Day was observed in Gilgit-Baltistan with zeal and enthusiasm. Functions were held in all areas where the community lives. The day started with gatherings in the Jamat Khanas where people prayed for the development, prosperity and well-being of the country.  ]]>
