CHITRAL, July 29: The district administration of Chitral has lodged an FIR (first information report) against those residents of Chitral who peacefully held a protest demonstration against prolonged power outages and open sale of narcotics in Chitral. Mohammad Kausar Chughtai Advocate told this scribe that he had confirmed from the police station Chitral that the FIR had been lodged against the president and members of the town power committee comprising Khan Hayatullah Khan, Mohammad Kausar Advocate, Maulana Jamshid and Hussain Ahmad. He said the police had registered a case against them under 16 Maintenance of Public Order (16 MPO) section 506, 504, 341, 149, 147 of Pakistan Panel Code (PPC) and section 34. He termed it totally injustice and determined that they would challenge the move of the district administration in the court of law. He further said they never threatened anybody nor they violated rules and regulations or were involved in any aggression or terrorism but even then the district administration booked them under very severe sections of the law. He said that there was no loadshedding in Chitral town and suburb areas for the last two days after their protest and it meant that there was no shortage of power. He said there was three types of power generation in Chitral: national grid, SHYDO power house and Wapda power house.—G.H. Farooqui]]>
