When you have everything in common except wealth why do you become envious to each other. In our society doctors are the most respected professionals, They work day and night to serve the people with physical health problems. They serve you when your elders get ill, they serve you when your children get ill, they serve you when your sisters and wives become ill. They are always ready to serve you specially the doctors of Chitral need much more applause for their devoted services to the people of Chitral with the help of limited resources.
On the other hand who will work day and night to serve the people with mental health problems? Our mental approach towards doctors is very pathetic.
Let us take an example of Dr Gulzar Ahmad who has been serving the people of Chitral for a decade or more. He is such a nice person if you have ever met him in life you might have acknowledged his friendly behaviour and sense of humour. He meets people with a smile and starts discussion with a happy mood. You cannot imagine such a nice person can be harmed or someone can make enmity with him.
A couple of months ago, some persons attempted to put his house on fire but failed to do so as timely response halted their attempt. The police made efforts and succeeded in arresting the criminals and they are now in custody.
To say the fact sometimes we plunged into some strange discussions with people and heard from them. Someone said: “The blood of young children has been ignited. He had made the house with the blood of young children so this was to happen to him.” These types of discussions made me mad. This is what I call mental health problems in our society which needs to be addressed seriously.
The dilemma is we don’t respect people for their achievements and rather criticize them for anything wrong affiliated with his profession. This is not a progressive society which modern age demands rather it leads us to such an environment where a religious party will take side of the criminals and make every effort to save the criminals and urge the affected person to compromise on the matter.
If this was the system of reward and punishment then goodbye to the justice system of Pakistan.
