Two years ago, the SRSP launched work on the construction of a 720 KW powerhouse in Mastuj and promised that it would be completed in nine months. The powerhouse was to be set up at a cost of Rs140 million.
However, work at the site faced delays right from the beginning. engineers and other experts were of the view that to establish a powerhouse for generating 720KW there were a number of requirement such as the water should fall into the plant from the height of at least 64m and the intake of the water should not be less than 132 cusecs.
For this, they added, the water channel should be six feet wide and six feet deep. However, the water channel of the powerhouse was designed to be 4×4 feet while the diameter of the penstoke pipe is five feet.
Based on these features, one can imagine how the powerhouse can generate 720 KW. the intake of the water is just 70 cusecs against the requirement of 132 cusecs. This powerhouse, as a result, is generating only 320 KW. which can even not meet the requirement of the Mastuj town.
Through this online newspaper, I would like to request the SRSP to hire the services of qualified and experienced engineers to achieve the set target of the powerhouse.
It is necessary that the water channel of the powerhouse is widened and deepened by two feet each for which the SRSP need to release more funds.
The project of this powerhouse is almost in the doldrums for the last two years and the residents want to get it completed so that the requirements of the Mastuj town and nearby areas could be met.
