Road to Chitral clogged with heavy traffic

CHITRAL, April 18: With the opening of the Lowari pass, a huge rush of vehicles has been seen on the road between Chitral and Dir. Our correspondent Abbas Hussain, who travelled from Drosh to Dir, reported that about 150 trucks loaded with different items were moving towards Chitral and clogged the road from the Lowari top to the Drosh town. To make things even worse, he also saw a few vehicles breaking down on the middle of the road and blocking the traffic. It took about three hours to reach Mirkhani from the Drosh town, he added. On the other hand, traders of Chitral were seen placing orders for daily use items which could not be transported to Chitral due to the closure of the Lowari tunnel for about three months. During this period, the only means of communication between Chitral and other parts of the country was the under-construction Lowari tunnel which opened for a few hours at the weekend.]]>
