Since 2010, our Chitral is on the verge of global warming. We have lost hundreds of precious lives, houses, farms, livestock and many more. These floods are the direct consequences of our callousness as a whole. On my recent visit to Chitral, a couple of things concerned me a lot. Amongst them that concerned me the most were the excessive usage of plastic bags, lack of dumping site for the garbage, and recycling plant. I noticed that people from all walks of life employed the method of burning their household wastes or had to throw them into streams, river, and ditches. They do so because they don’t have any alternative option available. As we all know the degradation effect of these waste materials on the environment. If we don’t take any step in time, these wastes will push us further deep into the ravine of global warming.
The onus lies on everyone, but the foremost responsibility lies on the administration. Administration should arrange dumping site for the town, and should install recycling plant on public private partnership. It should strictly implement executive order of Chief Minister KPK, by removing plastic bags from the market.
We need bravados in administration with strong charater, and leadership qualities like late charasmatic Osama Warraich, who left his name on everyone’s heart in short period of time. I am confident that our Chitrali officers are competent enough and capable of taking such initiatives, instead of sticking to routine desk job.
