ChitralToday on phone, Iftikhar Uddin from the Qazi family of Ashirate said he along with other family members took his wife for the delivery of his first child to the hospital at 1pm on Tuesday. He said after doing an ultrasound and other tests under the care of Dr Saeeda Rabbani, the patient was shifted to the ward in the evening. He said when the patient was in active labour pain he requested the nurses of the obstetrics ward to call the doctor on duty. “I went to the nurses four times and literally pleaded them to call the doctor to come and see the patient for the safe delivery of my child. But they told me that they had informed the doctor on duty, Dr Saeeda Rabbani, but she was not coming on their request,” he alleged. Having left with no options, he said, he along with his relatives ran towards the residence of the doctor located near the hospital to ask him to attend the patient at about 9pm but to no avail. He said due to the negligence of the hospital doctor and other staff, his wife delivered to a dead baby at 10pm. When contacted, Dr Muhammad Yaqub, the in-charge of the THQ hospital, told ChitralToday that he had received a complaint from the family of the woman and was investigating it. When asked if the baby was alive when the ultrasound was done, the doctor said the report was in front of him which showed active live foetus when the ultrasound was done. When asked if the baby was alive when the mother was brought to the hospital and died before delivery due to the negligence of the doctors, Dr Yaqub said the complaint was not about the death of the baby rather against the doctors for not attending the patient. “A baby can die anytime even 10 minutes after delivery or before delivery,” was the response of the doctor. An official at the Drosh police station told ChitralToday that they had also received a complaint from the husband of the woman against the negligence of the hospital staff that allegedly led to the death of the baby before delivery. He said a police officer was checking the record and reports of the patient at the hospital and a legal action would be initiated after collection of all the needed information.]]>
