BOONI: A man and his only son died in a road accident near Zait on Thursday.
The loaded Toyota land cruiser (PR-3818) was going to upper Yarkun from Chitral town when it skidded off the road while negotiating a turn near Zait village and plunged into the river.
The deceased belonged to the Gazen village of Yarkhun. They were identified as Riaz Ahmed and his son Azeem Khan. Another passenger of the vehicle, Hamid Hussain, was injured. Local people retrieved the bodies and sent them to the native village of the deceased after hiring a taxi jeep as there is no ambulance available in the area.
People here have for long been demanding that the government should arrange an ambulance to meet accidents frequently occurring on the dilapidated Chitral-Mastuj road.
Due to non-maintenance for decades, the busy road has become a death trap for commuters where scores of people have lost their lives and limbs.
