Karachi is one of the populated cities of Pakistan. It generates approximately 53.38% per cent of the total collections of taxes by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Karachi’s GDP is around 20% of the total GDP of Pakistan.
Favorable geographical location as the major port and the country’s largest metropolis opens the horizon of business opportunities to the international market and marks the city as land of business opportunities. The operations of multinational corporations and leading products and services industries have spread in congested population of diversely segmented economy that increase the inflow of people from across the country and further attract the investors to invest capital in the emerging market. The residents round the clock seem to be engaged in trading activities by their market driven strategies to take the advantage of populated city.
The network of sponsored professional beggars and handicapped people mostly from the interiors are found in traffic signals, shrines, mosques, railway stations and hospitals with proper technique of choosing appropriate words and assuming perfect physical appearance as persuasive tools to attract the sympathy. Different NGOs run orphanages where they can be taught technical skills but they definitely would prefer to stay in the same track being in a profitable business.
The world is also not empty with some good people they believe on struggle, creativity, and hardship. They would not give up till finding out an appropriate way to earn income. One of the unique markets driven strategy is designed by the marketers as bird feeding. These people have chosen pigeons as a source of their income and have changed the paradigm shift from the bird’s historical message carrying role to a source of lucrative business.
The feeding stations are selected in the congested places of traffic where people are attracted by huge gathering of pigeons to offer their sympathy towards the creature to materialize their internal wish. The free flyers in the air have been captured and their routine is fixed in the frame of bird feeders market segmentation in different attractive localities like Schon Circle Clifton Centre, New Town roundabout, Nazimabad petrol pump and so many other places to generate income in exchange of feeding the pigeons. Bird feeders spend money for the variety of bird feeds making them available at the feeding stations for sale. Per unit cost gives them optimum margin of profit as it runs round the clock. It is also obvious that occupying space in such localities only possible after crossing through mafia and reasonable amount is negotiated, after an allocation some money for mafia’s, it gives two times profit to the owner. Persistent flow of people drives the sale of commodities to the public for the ultimate user giving profitable act to the marketers. We are serving the creature as well as earning money as there no any other options to choose for survive in the prevailing inflation rate; said one of the Bird feeders. The way of income generation should be appreciated in the city where street crimes are on the rise. It also gives the lesson to criminals and beggars to choose the right path and also further strengthen the quote: “when there is a will there is a way.”
