'Exclusion of nazims in saplings' distribution not acceptable'

In a statement, Salamat Khan and Muhammad Pervez Lal of the forum said the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN arranged a function for the distribution of the saplings among the local people for the establishment of orchards but the LG members were not invited. This, they said, not only violated the basic mandate of the AKRSP but also belittled the importance of the local government elected representatives. They said the involvement of the local elected representatives was imperative to ensure that the saplings were given only to those farmers who possessed enough land and other capacities for the success of the orchards. They said if the authorities concerned of the AKRSP did not take notice of the matter, the nazims and all the members of the local government would lodge a protest against the local officials of the AKRSP.]]>

In my opinion, it is not necessary to involve the local elected representatives in each and every matter of non governmental organizations. Unfortunately every organization/department /individual in Pakistan try to encroach and engulf the power of less powerful organization/individual; and NGOs being teeth-less easily become prey to such ambitious organizations. If nizimins are that much interested, they should motivate agriculture and forest department to raise orchards and non fruit trees in the area. They simply want to satisfy their ego and prepare ground for the up coming election.
