“Democracy is the solution to all problems”, is the cry of the day. All of the champions of the national interests and custodians of the snatchers of our rights are agreed upon this slogan.
Parliamentary election practiced in our country is also a bead in this string. In connection to this, mob hysteria is expected to play its vital role in the next few months, resulting election of our representatives for national and provincial assemblies from our district. The pessimist says that we are going to elect another specie who will use, before his election a slogan of sectarian harmony; who will take the help of the slogan of ethnic equity in one place while superiority or prejudice according to situation in another place.
Sagaciousness of brotherhood and, theological, racial and social harmonies will sprout new flowers of relations ending on the election of a mediocre mind. If we look few years back these opinions were there before election and the results were exactly according to the perception. But now Chitral is entirely changed. Flow of information across the constituency through electronic and print media has entirely altered the coherence of the results with such ill-fated predictions. In recent past, most of the population from the far-flung areas was not bothering to cast their votes because they were thinking of “No Paradigm Shift’’. Now all know the importance of casting vote and turning it into electoral revolution.
In this turn, if the next batch of hierarchical leaders tends to show temerity and petulance to diverge fastidious public opinion from the world of reality to Castle in air, at least, they will see defeat from the talented, educated and potent candidates probably emerging from the young and educated generation of Chitral. Their successes of previous terms, build on the narrow creed of different forms of exploitation of mass population, is more likely going to be converted into defeat in upcoming turn. The altruistic suicide due to emotionalism and pedantic attitude of the peoples is diminished and the intellect of the peoples is waiting for the best from Chitral. It is the need of the hour to realize now it as a sensitive issue. We have to be aware that the weathercock politicians have increased their public interaction and reconciliation after a long term of estrangement, in terms of attending wedding and funeral ceremonies and ceremonials. Inaugural boards of different such projects are appearing here and there which were pending for decades and will go behind the scene after election.
Banners are hanged in many places showing the contributions of our leaders. But now we are conscious and are waiting for a leadership which will speak about law-making procedures and development of Chitral in National and provincial assemblies in a more practical and real sense. In upcoming election, especially the youth has to play its role properly because now they are the builder of Pakistan and “youth is the future builders of Pakistan” is now going to be modified into “ Youth is the present builder of Pakistan’’.
