The recent forced abduction of civil rights activists and bloggers allegedly by secret intelligence agencies paints a gruesome picture of the lawless situation we have found ourselves in.
Moreover, they have the constitutional right to be presented before a court of law to defend the allegations being hurled against them and the law must be allowed to take its due course in deciding whether they have committed any crime or not. Unfortunately, a pugnacious and contentious campaign has been waged by some of the hawkish television channel hosts by openly declaring them infidels and guilty of blasphemy which could possibly make them more vulnerable and susceptible to being assaulted by the violent extremist chunks of the society even after their release.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon the government to make the necessary legislation which must not allow the extrajudicial kidnapping of activists voicing their opinions against a parochially defined narrative and ban programs from airing on TV which can potentially incite violence and engender hatred in the society.
