Protesting schoolchildren block road at Ashiret

roadDROSH, April 19: A large number of schoolchildren blocked the Chitral-Peshawar road at Ashiret at about 8am on Saturday. The students were protesting against the transfer of their teacher Sardar Hayat to Ursun. They said the teacher had been made a victim of political victimization. The protesting students said they would continue to block the road till the government brought back their teacher. Elders and political representatives reached the spot and tried to persuade the angry students to open the road for traffic but the students insisted that they would end their protest if the transfer order of the teacher was withdrawn. The students were assured that the matter would be taken up with the authorities concerned of the education department. However, till the filing of this report the road remained closed.–Jahan Zeb Rahi (Photo by Abbas Hussain)students]]>

Actually, a few days back human rights activists and this correspondent visited Govt High School Ashiret where the school was found closed illegally and most of the teachers, including the headmaster absent. The school and classrooms were littered with garbage. The issue was brought into the notice of the Deputy Commissioner Chitral as well as District Education Officer. This news was also on air from different TV channels and published in newspapers. As a result, the DEO took action and issued transfer order of the absent teacher. So students of the school were motivated by the teachers to go on protest and block the road illegally.
